Dear Colleagues, Partners, and Friends,

It is with great pride and a deep sense of responsibility that I announce to you the release of the Amphibian Conservation Action Plan – Status Review. This landmark document is the culmination of over 15 years of dedicated amphibian conservation knowledge and actions, and the collective wisdom of our community. It serves as both a testament to our past efforts and a roadmap for our future endeavors to mitigate and reverse the amphibian extinction crisis.

This comprehensive review has been meticulously led by the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, with invaluable contributions from the ASG Working Groups Co-chairs, and co-authored by over 100 distinguished scientists and experts from 25 countries. The collaborative effort embedded in this document underscores the global commitment to safeguarding amphibians and highlights the key priorities and gaps concerning the main threats affecting these vital species.

At the Amphibian Survival Alliance (ASA), we are steadfast in our commitment to the implementation of the Amphibian Conservation Action Plan (ACAP) at local, regional, and global levels. Our mission is to support our Partners and external organizations in addressing ACAP priorities, thereby guiding global efforts and fostering evidence-based decision-making.

The ACAP – Status Review outlines critical areas for action, from habitat protection and restoration to addressing disease and climate change impacts. It provides a clear framework for decision-making and species management, ensuring that our collective efforts are strategic, coordinated, and impactful.

As we embark on this next chapter, I call upon all stakeholders—governments, NGOs, researchers, and the broader conservation community—to unite in our shared vision. Together, we can implement the strategies detailed in this document, harness the power of collaboration, and make significant strides towards a future where amphibians thrive in nature.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication and support. Let us continue to work hand in hand to protect these remarkable creatures and the ecosystems they inhabit.

Sincerely,

Gina Della Togna, Ph.D.
